Ball Aerospace Awarded Spacecraft Operations Support for (Suomi NPP) Satellite

On February 17 2017, there was an article posted on Intelligent Aerospace that talks about how Ball Aerospace uses Suomi NPP (National Polar Orbiting Partnership) satellite in order to provide weather data. Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp was able to do this by winning a NASA contract that has a 5 year length that will support the operations for the NPP satellite.

Within the Suomi NPP satellite vehicle, there are integrated satellite instruments have the ability to perform satellite level testing as well as launch support. The Suomi NPP satellite vehicle was built and designed by the Ball Aerospace engineers.

Here is what Ball Aerospace vice president and general manager of the civil space business unit, Jim Oschmann, has to say about being awarded the contract.

"We are in a unique position to assist with essential sustaining engineering services and proud to have the opportunity to continue our role of providing critical spacecraft operations support to help Suomi NPP go beyond its original charter. The Suomi NPP satellite has significantly impacted everyday safety around the world – largely invisible to the general public and indispensable to the scientific communities at NASA, NOAA, and the Department of Defense."
